I became a news junkie on 9/11. The impact of that event hit me
hard. And of all the questions I asked, "why" was the most
important. I became not only a news junkie, but began my research
in earnest to not only try to answer these questions, but other
questions that arose as I continued my research.
We must KNOW what our government is doing. It takes time, it's
hard work. Even if you have time to do the research, it can
be difficult just finding reliable sources of information.
We must not only know what our government is doing, but
how it works so
we can demand the necessary changes that should be made.
Almost everyone has an agenda. That's to be expected. We are
humans, after all, and we will always bring our own experiences to an
issue.
The Media
Our media sources have unfortunately no longer seem capable of asking
real questions to get to answers we need to know, nor are they capable
in many cases of pushing back against misinformation or out and out lies
being used to push an agenda or an
ideology.
This is a disservice to our democracy and we must demand better from
them.
There are various links to articles and organizations on this page and throughout the
site, including GAO reports and various white papers produced by
non-profit organizations that you, hopefully, will find of interest so
that you can be informed and can start taking the media to task when
they fail us.
Big Government
I hear a constant cry for reducing "big government." I cannot
disagree. But before we willy nilly demand a reduction in
government, we should know what our government agencies do, whether or
not there is duplicative effort in their mandates or services, whether
or not they are still needed, and whether or not they can be merged into
other departments, much like corporate America does every day. And a
suggestion box is nice...but it really is time for government to work
properly by streamlining the processes by which they work. If we want
to seriously resolve this problem, we need a Congressional Committee
(unfortunately) created to address this problem, so we can responsibly
address what can be done to reduce the size of government.
We must get involved in our government's activities, we cannot rely on
others to protect our democracy. Our democracy is our
responsibility. We cannot depend on others to defend it for us.
